Launch of the e-Tourism Framework Project

Internet and ICT e-Infrastructures certainly represent a new Renaissance for our society, influencing every single aspect of our daily life.

According to WTO, the Internet is playing a fundamental role in the distribution of tourism information and sales. Increasing proportion of users are buying services on–line, in this sense, online booking and reservation services have been widely accepted among both leisure and business travelers to a degree where it is true to say that “e-tourism” has taken off and the touristic sector will gain a larger and larger share of the online commerce market. Internet and increasingly mobile devices are also having a major impact as a source of information for tourism. However, organizations, services providers and users are facing more stringent impediments to the adoption of new information technology sometimes due to the lack of professional players in the sector.

Tourism has been recognised as a key sector that contributes to achieving the Lisbon strategy’s goals and it has become an increasingly important part of the European policies and investments. In this light, the EC Leonardo da Vinci – Lifelong Learning Programme recently co-funded the e-Tourism Framework (e-TF) project.

Thanks to its trans-European partnership from Switzerland, France, Germany, U.K., Austria and Italy, e-TF will analyse market needs, issue e-jobs profiles and training guidelines with a truly international background, e-Tourism specific trainings have started in some European countries and shall commence in others. Setting up a well recognised Framework for e-tourism in accordance with labour market needs will support harmonised development of the industry and contribute to better skilled staff.

To achieve the aforementioned results, the consortium has put in place several on-line and off-line tools and will organize a final workshop to validate the projects results.

If you would like to find out more about the e-TF project please visit the project website at: http://e-jobs-observatory.eu/ (for e-tourism see http://www.e-jobs-observatory.eu/e-Tourism) and or contact the EMF – The Forum of e-Excellence http://www.emfs.eu
